Complications of Dental Extractions: Avoiding and Dealing with Them
The old adage “it’s like pulling teeth” arose for a reason. Extracting firmly rooted teeth is sometimes necessary, but there are many things that can go wrong. This lecture will discuss the most common complications associated with dental extractions, including retrieving broken root tips, displaced roots into the nasal passage and mandibular canal, sialoceles, and iatrogenic mandibular fractures. This lecture will discuss how to avoid these complications and how to treat them when they do occur.

It's More Than Missing Teeth: Recognizing Dental and Oral Abnormalities
Take your dental charting to the next level. Learn to recognize the normal anatomy and learn abnormal dental and oral pathology. Oral pathology is often misdiagnosed and underdiagnosed due to lack of recognition. Once one can recognize what is abnormal in the mouth, correct charting may be completed. The proper treatment options for commonly seen pathology are discussed and described. Abbreviations according to the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) are used for commonly seen pathology and are discussed.

Fine-tuning YOUR Dentistry in General Practice
In this session, you will be covering an in-depth look at normal clinical anatomy and radiographic anatomy to help us identify findings that may be abnormal. In regards to radiographic anatomy, using tools, such as correct image orientation and the mounting or layout of the images will help develop a systematic approach to tooth identification. There will be a chance to quiz yourself and test your knowledge! Throughout our talk, we will be discussing ways we can practice better for ourselves, such as ergonomics, instrumentation, proper PEE, and how it contributes to better patient care. Patient positioning, prevention of tracheal tears in cats, safety limitations, or what we need to know when it comes to mouth gags, will be discussed. Understanding how to identify basic instruments in dentistry, (the periodontal probe, explorer, and different ultrasonics) and how to properly use them will also be reviewed.

VetCE Virtual events cover everything from detailed medical topics to practice management and other non-medical topics relevant to everyday situations that veterinary professionals deal with.
The VetCE Virtual series of micro-conferences are a convenient alternative to in-person events that are designed to deliver multiple approved RACE and/or CVPM CE credits in a concise, half-day virtual format with three consecutive one-hour presentations. The series not only provides you with the opportunity to benefit from educational sessions presented by expert speakers but also gives you an easy way to learn and earn credits in the comfort of your home or office!
Recordings of the sessions will be available for viewing for 2 weeks following each event for participants to reference. The recordings will also be available to VPN+ members for free after the 2 weeks. Please be advised that we can not issue CE certificates for only viewing the session recordings. Anyone who registers for a VetCE Virtual event but is unable to attend the live sessions will get free access to the VetCE OnDemand courses we create from the recordings on VetMedTeam so you can still get CE credits!

Wendi is a certified veterinary technician in New Jersey. She obtained a VTS in dentistry in 2019 while working at the University of Pennsylvania alongside a team of hygienists.
